The squad was established in 2021 after the <a href=\"https:\/\/esportsinsider.com\/2021\/02\/riot-games-launches-vct-game-changers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">creation<\/a> of VALORANT Game Changers, Riot Games\u2019 esports ecosystem for women and other marginalised genders.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-681898bc4e854\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n<p>Former Counter-Strike athlete Petra was part of G2 Gozen\u2019s founding roster, which quickly became a dominating force within the Game Changers scene. The team routinely ranked at the top of regional tournaments and won the inaugural Game Changers <a href=\"https:\/\/esportsinsider.com\/2022\/11\/vct-2022-game-changers-championship-finals-viewership\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Championship in 2022<\/a>. With this victory, Petra, Michaela \u2018mimi\u2019 Lintrup, and Julia \u2018juliano\u2019 Kiran became the first women to win World Championships in two different games.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-681898bc4ee31\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n<p>While G2 Gozen never managed to secure another international trophy, Petra and her team finished third at both the <a href=\"https:\/\/esportsinsider.com\/2023\/12\/vct-2023-game-changers-viewership\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2023<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/esportsinsider.com\/2024\/11\/vct-2024-game-changers-viewership-record\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2024<\/a> Championships. This year, however, the team failed to dominate on a regional level for the first time.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-681898bc4f412\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n<p>Despite leading the EMEA Stage 1 Group Stage with an 8-1 match score, G2 Gozen lost in the Playoffs bracket. The roster was defeated by Karmine Corp GC (0-2) and then lost a rematch against GIANTX GC (1-3), only securing third place.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"esi-heading-681898bc4fa2f\" class=\"esi-heading \">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"why_was_petra_benched-2\">Why Was Petra Benched?<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-681898bc5003c\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n<p>Following today\u2019s news, G2 Gozen\u2019s Team Manager, Thibault \u2018Tibalt\u2019 Pulcini, shed some light on the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/G2Tibalt\/status\/1916796246766866895\">reasons<\/a> behind Petra\u2019s move to the bench. According to Tibalt, the team sought to undergo further role changes to improve competitive results. Smokes player Aleyna \u2018Vania\u2019 Keskin was to return to her initial role, while Petra needed to fill the role of duelist.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-681898bc505f9\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n<p>Without prior duelist experience in competitive play, Petra was meant to join trial runs for the position ahead of Game Changers Stage 2. Tibalt claims that Petra chose not to join the trials.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-681898bc50bce\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n<p>The team manager further explained: \u201cI know some people will consider the decision of putting Petra on trials an injustice. Especially considering everything she has done for the team for almost four years. These people don&#8217;t understand that it is our job to make sure this team performs at the highest level all the time, which sometimes requires hard decisions like this one.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-681898bc5119e\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n<p>Petra herself also <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PetraStoker\/status\/1916800262754193641\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">commented<\/a> on today\u2019s news via X (formerly Twitter): \u201cPain in my heart, but I can look back on great memories. Let&#8217;s see what the future holds.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-681898bc5175f\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n<p>With her on the bench, in-game leader mimi is the only member of G2 Gozen\u2019s initial roster who still actively competes for the team. As Petra\u2019s longest-standing teammate, she posted a heartfelt <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mimimimichaela\/status\/1916795046835216790\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">statement<\/a> on her personal social media.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"esi-paragraph-681898bc51d07\" class=\"esi-paragraph \">\n<p>\u201cFive years of friendship, laughter, growth, and today, that chapter closes,\u201d wrote mimi. \u201cThis is, without a doubt, the hardest decision I&#8217;ve ever been a part of, but when you&#8217;re part of a team, you learn that the right decision isn&#8217;t always the easiest, especially when it&#8217;s made with the bigger picture in mind.
